Behind the Cabin Door 2021: 3 “Search me and know my heart hide me in your Word so I won’t forget you…” I shared the words to this song to my kids and then God gave me a simple picture how I could relate his closeness He desires from us...

God met with me and my children one morning during a devotional time before school. He loves to surprise us with His love! We were reading and praying through the Psalms and as the kids were reading out loud  these words kept echoing inside me…  “Search me and know my heart hide me in your Word so I won’t forget you…” When the kids had finished reading, I shared my thoughts and words to this song. And then God gave me a simple picture how I could relate this closeness He desires from us…

“Picture a big refrigerator.”, I told them
“What would you have inside?”
They screamed in excitement! “Pizza, cookies, candy, ice cream!…”
What kid doesn’t love to eat!
I continued, “What would happen if you kept the pizza, and sweet treats in jars but you forgot about it? Then weeks later you find your jars of yummy food and when you do… it has all gone bad!!! You wouldn’t even want to open the jars would you because you can’t tell what it is any more!”
The kids got real quiet. I knew God had showed up during this simple refrigerator illustration. I continued…
“Imagine that those jars and your refrigerator is your heart. What has been stored in your refrigerator? What is a “jar” in your life that has gone bad and when you open the refrigerator door there is a stench that may spread out?…”  God wants to search our refrigerators or our hearts and take all the jars of bad food or all the sin out!”
The kids stayed quiet and we sat there for a few minutes. The atmosphere was so sweet with God’s love wanting to take care of us!
I told them to get their journals and write and draw a picture of all the “jars” that need to come out of their, our, hearts. Our prayer ended with. “Show us the best way to take these bad jars out and throw them away. Search our hearts God.”

The following days we looked on the wall and the refrigerator (ha ha) of our pictures of our “jars” and the reminder of God’s Word, what to do, and how to keep our “jars” or hearts clean. Then God showed up again during our worship worship time!…
“Kids! God just doesn’t want to clean our “jars” but he wants to fill us back up with good things!” God just showed up just as He is and loved on us and He began to fill us back up! He never asks us to give him are all and then leave us alone. No! He desires to replace everything we give him with better and greater things! I grabbed my kids hands, danced, and twirled them around! We kept praises Jesus for His love! “Our jars were clean and full again!”

Today, I encourage you to turn on your favorite worship music and spend time with Jesus! I encourage you to search your heart. Ask if God wants to replace anything that may have been lost in your "refrigerator" back behind other things… Take your time. Then, Allow Him to fill your jar back up! God ALWAYS  has something new and refreshing to give!
